Most injuries do not happen with a single traumatic event. Factors which predispose us to injury are usually to do with our posture and lifestyle. Most of us will be relatively sedentary in between intense bursts of activity training in the gym or on a sports ground at the weekend. The fact that most sports injuries are of lower limb probably reflects that most sports involve running. Running injuries are particularly common.

At Exeter osteopaths we enable you to achieve your individual optimum level of function, regardless of age and sporting activity.

Not only do we treat you, we give you plenty of advice on various exercises to help improve all round function of the body, movement and decreased pain. We also clearly explain to you why you get injured and how you can prevent the symptoms from returning in the future. We have access to X-Rays, MRI’s and also able to refer to consultants if necessary.

We have an experienced team of specialists. We treat injuries from rugby, football, running, cycling, rowing and dancing to name a few, at elite level as well as amateur local level.

We recommend if you do exercise on a regular basis, especially intensive bursts of exercise to come in regularly for a maintenance treatment/check up. Jennifer Townsend Doe is a fully registered Osteopath and qualified Sports Massage Therapist. She has much experience treating sports injuries as well as strains from working posture, pregnancy etc. Jenny can also give advice about specific stretching and strengthening exercises. She runs our 'Stretch for Health' program. Jenny is able to explain why your muscles are so tense from an osteopath's perspective and address the cause of your symptoms.
